12 V BATTERY TIE DOWN
As any person knows, the 12V battery in a vehicle is crucial for vehicle operation. However, the mounting systems for these batteries, in my experience, has always been a massive pain.
Many manufactures utilize metal rods, that need to be carefully threaded in from the top, with locking nuts. While this works, it is neither elegant nor efficient when installing/removing a battery. Additionally, these setups are typically made from plastic and become brittle with age.
To the right is an example of a standard battery tie down system with my custom design pictured below.
The design process
To address the shortcomings of the standard 12V battery tie down systems, I designed my own. With my solution, the rods thread into the base and the tie down is clamped down nuts.
Additionally, I have constructed the base and tie down using aluminum for better life and aesthetics.
This particular design is mounted to the floor on the interior of the vehicle. The mounting hardware are standard M5 socket head cap screws.

After machining the battery base holder and the battery strap, assembly was completed and installed. The system came out exactly how I envisioned it and I am very pleased with the final design!
